Reverend And The Makers - The State of Things

The State of Things by Reverend And The Makers

Jon McClure (aka The Reverend) is already ruffling feathers - intelligent and outspoken he has an opinion on most things. He's a storyteller and brilliant songwriter capable of writing some of the strongest lyrics in British pop music for which this albums bears great testament.Already an icon in his hometown he runs a monthly club at The Plug 'Reverend Sound System' and retains strong ties with the Arctic Monkeys having fronted a pre-Arctics/Makers band with Alex Turner, and later writing various blogs for the Arctic’s site while also contributing to the songwriting on both of their albums - Jon co-wrote ‘Old Yellow Bricks’ and Alex contributes vocals to the mutant drum & bass, electroid rock of 'The Machine' on 'The State Of Things’.  The album features 12 songs and ranges from the aforementioned ‘The Machine’ through to the ska inflected pop of ‘Miss Brown’ to the massively anthemic ‘Open Your Window’ to the barmy ode to losing all your hard earned on fruit machines 'Bandits' - everyone a winner and all of them with a songwriting depth that marks The Reverend out as someone that's gonna make pop music interesting again.
