What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Phil feeling ecstatic.

Straight onto Murcof who just absolutely are the best thing to come out of Mexico since Mescal. Here's their new album 'Cosmos' which will just happily take you there on a one way ticket to some sort of wierd doomed cosmos. This is great.... It's quite different to their previous albums as well. This one is much more minimal and dark sounding. Loads of spacious, almost doom laden segments punctuated with some almost religious sounding organs. There's a few more familiar sounding minimal rhythmical tracks which sound like typical Murcof but on the whole this is a very different beast. This is some dark atmospheric and seriously moving shit. At times we can hears bits of Deathprod in there. Crazy! Not one to sit on your own and listen to unless you have some spare pantage.

What the label says:

The truly monumental Cosmos is Murcof’s third album proper, and his first release since 2005’s Remembranza
Comprised of six massive instrumental compositions inspired by his new- found love of astronomy, this is without doubt Fernando Corona’s best work yet - especially with the volume up!
A move away from the glitch sound he helped to pioneer Cosmos will appeal as much to fans of contemporary composition and artists such as Earth/Sunn O))) KTL/Bohren as to the last remaining fans of ’electronic’ music, with which this only bears a passing resemblance.
The long awaited album is composed almost entirely of recordings of classical instruments, a process which Corona describes as "expanding the possibilities of acoustic instruments through electronics".
Corona has recently collaborated with pianist Francesco Tristano (at this year’s Sonar festival), Erik Truffaz and Talvin Singh (at the 2006 Montreux Jazz Festival) and video artist Saul Saguatti at the Geode IMAX in Paris Gravitating to his natural home, Corona has now scored three feature films, including the forthcoming La Sangre Iluminada
(Enlightened Blood) - further film soundtracks are in the pipeline.
Corona is set to appear live in Europe more frequently around the album release, with a European tour of planetaria currently being scheduled.
Available as digipak CD and sumptuous (and very limited) triple vinyl LP with a single track cut on each side of vinyl at 45rpm for best sound quality.

Tracklist: 1. Cuerpo Celeste  2. Cielo  3. Cosmos 1  4. Cometa  5. Cosmos II  6. Oort
