This record left our Ant feeling happy.

I got a bit excited a few weeks ago when a promo record baring the Dalek name arrived... My Education Vs Dalek (Stars Of The Lid / Ultrasound/ Cinders)have done a version of Avro Parts 'Spiegel Im Spiegel' and made it their own with some blissed out pedal steel, rhodes and viola. The label describes it as tranquil and I really cannot think of a better word. Like flying or floating across the ocean on a blistering hot day. Ultra chilled is the vibe here. As I was saying I'm a bit of a Dalek fan so I was intrigued to hear their 'Deadverse remix'. Needless to say they inject some of their trademark filth into the sonic brew. At first I thought this was an unlikely collaboration but that's not necessarily so. The beats are fucked up a bit and looped but the warm undercurrent of the original is intact while a typical dope Dalek verse is dropped over the twinkling melodies. Great stuff on Thirty Ghosts Records.

"Spiegel im Spiegel is a piece of music that was originally written by Arvo Part in 1978 for a single piano and violin. For track one My Education took this piece and expanded on it by adding intricate layers of percussion, slide guitar, electric guitar, and bass, creating a tranquil sound that is familiar to other My Education songs. For track two, Dalek and The Oktopus added in some sick beats and a variety of layered sounds and vocals to take the piece to a whole new level. Both songs were recorded by The Oktopus at The Deadverse studios, and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side."
