This is the debut release from Manchester-based Neil Burrell and marks his arrival with a folk-psych wash to be filed somewhere between Six Organs of Admittance, Syd Barrett and Devendra Banhart.
Having lived a number of years swirling inside his own mind, Manchester label Akoustik Anarkhy got behind Neil and caught an incredible number of songs recorded across bedrooms and basements from which forthcoming debut album ’White Devils Day Is Nearly Over’ has been selected (to be released in November.)
A-side Ooompa Zoompa takes obvious reference from Willy Wonka but twists things into a more sinister tuning. Flip-side Evelyn is an older song about a more innocent time, it’s a dreamy love song with a soft touch - as fragile as some later Elliott Smith but with a curious melody.
Limited to 400 copies only.
