The Shallow Call - Frank Bruno

Frank Bruno by The Shallow Call

Shallow Call With 'Frank Bruno' which is a debut from the band about the ex-world champion/ occasional nut job and constant panto star. Its a quirky pop number following the blue print of pop including all the "unexpected" chords that one would bet your back teeth are coming next. Not made me angry though as it's an ego free number with the Bluetones sound very much in prominence. The B-sides is a another quirky number with the jingle jangle pop sound. On Cherry Bomb Disco.

August 2004, 4 strangers, living in a shithole called Northwich,  met whilst signing on. They chatted. They discovered a love of all things Smiths, The Clash, The Undertones. From that chance meeting, The Shallow Call were born. The Shallow Call release their debut single ‘Frank Bruno’ on Cherry Bomb Disco on Sept 10th .  An iron-fisted, velvet gloved ode to Englishness, self-deprecation and graciousness in defeat. Jump and dance. On Side 2, “Oh No, Not Again”. From shit jobs to shit pubs, a town of johnny, chip strewn pissholes and the frustration of small town life over blazing fucked-off guitars. The cd bonus track is ‘Seventeen’. A modern day ‘Summer Loving’, story with ASBO boy replacing the big faced John Travolta and his Olivia Newton-John fixation over bubble-gum Spector-like pop. An introduction to The Shallow Call, for those with an ear for classic three minute pop. Supported by Radio 1’s Colin Murray, Steve Lamacq and having toured or played with The Enemy, Reverend & The Makers, Little Man Tate, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Pigeon Detectives. If you like your pop music instant then try on The Shallow Call. 'The Shallow Call sound like they need to get things off their chest, like something's pissing them and they want you to know about it.

I bought this when I heard it was Steve Lamacq's single of the week, and I can't stop listening to it!

It's one of those songs that, even if it was an hour long, is over far too quickly and I've just got to put it on again!

Really really love this - recommending it to all.

Love
