Animal Collective
Peacebone
A Norman Records recommendation (9th August 2007)

This record left our Phil feeling ecstatic.
The Animal Collective have fucked Fat Cat off and hoofed it over to Domino presumerably for a large slice of some Arctic Franz cash. Who'd blame 'em eh. We all need to eat.... I'm permanently hungry these days as well. You can't knock 'em. So have they changed much? Nah not really. It sounds like they've chucked loads of money at them cos the production is ridiculously clean but underneath it's still the same crazed wonky pop which will thrill or wind you up depending where you sit? I'm a massive fan of these guys. I think they're geniuses and this is brilliant. On 3rd listen it really hits the spot. I can hear bits of They Might Be Giants in there, albeit They Might Be Giants on crackpipes. Peacebone/ Safer is 10" only and extremely worthwhile of your attention.

What their label says...
Animal Collective release their brand new single ‘Peacebone’. Their first ever release for Domino, the single is a taster from the brilliant new album ‘Strawberry Jam’. ‘Strawberry Jam’ is the sound of a band spinning wildly and intoxicated, at the cusp of their powers, as thick and rich and sweet and colourful as it sounds. ‘Peacebone’ is a whirligig of Animal Collective’s DNA. Clusters of synths, loping rhythms and lyrical bursts of high pitched wonder rushing to fall over each other. Imagine the teenage thrill of a drive-in movie that’s happening right now in a different dimension. ‘Peacebone’ is backed with an exclusive b-side, the epic ‘Safer’.
