Maggie: "Danube Flow" is a self released edition of 50 CDr's from a former Hood collaborator and all-round good person Mark Wright. Maggie is a duo specialising in heartbreaking tunes backed by all manner of instrumentation including banjo (the new guitar after the piano), melodica, fiddle, drums and organ. Nearest comparisons are the High Llamas meets Panda Bear jamming at the Brudenell Social (a gig venue in Leeds!) with Beiruit. The voice is barely there in a distantly warm way but it's the combination of all the instrumentation with spoken word samples that hints at an ambitious scope-maybe when they're famous they could hire a full orchestra and choir. Three tracks good on this very encouraging debut release. Catch em' live round Leeds...something's definitely developing here. Well recommended. What the label says: The debut single from Leeds duo Maggie lovingly(!) produced over 2 years making use of every instrument they could get there hands. Its a ride through life, rejection, divorce, a sense of grandeur, a feeling of worthlessness, all compressed to read through the ear via brain. Featuring C.Adams (hood) and Lucy Franklin (7 Hertz) with some aplomb, its a bedroom obsession with home recording at the heart of furnace..... roar

About the humble CD single:

Another digital format and even though they can hold 80 minutes of information (like a CD album would) record companies only fill up a small portion of the disc. Sometimes only 1 or 2 tracks on there totalling 5 minutes or so. It's like going to a restaurant and getting a plate of food with 2 green beans on and wondering where the rest of your meal is. Sometimes they're lovingly packaged though and when the music is good then you're into a winner. Also you get videos on there sometimes which you can watch on your computer. That is excellent.
