Jack Sparrow - Spam Purse / Blackout

Spam Purse / Blackout by Jack Sparrow

4...according to our on Thu 30 Jul, 2009.

My wee boy loves Pirates Of The Carribbean, particularly Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow. A drunk womanising pirate, and a fine role model I'm sure you'll agree. Believe it or not he's actually creating dubstep records these days and has one out on Tectonic. 'Spam Purse' has a big rolling kick drum and tribalish groove, pitched down vocal sample. Brett is reminded of the Gatekeeper tune 'Tomb'. It's a chunky one, that's quite uptempo and would slip into a techno set. The flip side is not as dark, with a more soulful feel. I'm reminded a little of Ramadanman.

Another product of Leeds' incredibly fertile dubstep scene and member of the Senseless clan, Jack Sparrow digs deep and pulls
out two primed heavy floor rockers for his debut 12". Obviously informed by bass-weight sessions at Subdub with the
indomitable Iration rig, young Sparrow has learnt a thing or two about the effect of a well produced and dispatched subbass on
a crowded dancefloor, demonstrated with style and effiency on the Mala DMZ style up-rocker 'Blackout'. Rolling with a mean
steppers intent Sparrow drops a kicking riddim with moody digi-dub riffage and divebombing subs to find favour in any
bigboy's set. 'Spam Purse' on the flip opts for a Coki style bassbin wobbler with Skream alike arpeggios and the simple but
deadly "Bass...Roll" refrain, which says it all really. Big with Distinction, Simon 'Subdub' Scott, Juju and Sarantis.
