The Barker Band was formed after twin brothers Jake and Sam Barker began playing bluegrass with their dad, Lenny, and their oldest friend, Laurie Sherman. The four of them then played a few acoustic sessions in small clubs and pubs in London to very enthusiastic audiences and realised pretty quickly that there seemed to be a thirst for this kind of music. They were soon joined by old skateboard friend Tom Wright on bass, Hanna Loftus on
fiddle, Rupert Shreeve on drums and Nella Johnson on vocals.
It wasn't long before they started writing and recording their own songs, around 6,000 miles east of Nashville - in their Acton studio, drawing on influences from bluegrass, rock, country and blues. The result is a unique blend of traditional and modern styles with an emphasis on vocal harmony.
