What we say
This record left our Maggie feeling happy.
2 7" by Twisted Charm with Cinema on Because records. A wierd theatrical electro pop song with dead pan vocals. It's all twisted and wobbly sounding with an 80's sound. Sounds a bit like To My Boy.. B-sides a South Central remix called Boring Lifestyles. T'other B-sides called Whore and is a typical angry song against women by a little man with Peter Sucliffe tendencies who's wanked way too much. The sound of an angry, lonely ejaculation. Phil likes the tune.... I couldnt hear it past the grunting.
What the label says:
TRACKLISTING: 7" A) Cinema, B) Whore, 7" A) Cinema B) Boring Lifestyles (South Central ‘Job For Life’ Edited Remix), OVERVIEW:
Twisted Charm are one of the UK indie scene's most treasured groups,
having been influential in many of their original fans starting hugely
successful bands of their own (Bloc Party, Klaxons, Bono Must Die…),
and their brand new single 'Cinema' is an off-kilter brit-pop classic,
their paean to inner-city escapism. What does this latest offering
sound like? Imagine Gang of Four's post-punk nihilism, Devo's
off-the-wall ingenuity, Clor's agit-funk danceability permeated with a
distinctly London ennui… and you’re somewhere close. "Take me to the
cinema so I can see again" frontman Nathan Doom entreats over jerky
guitars and spasmodic saxophone, knitted together with a titanic rhythm
section. Like last year's single 'Boring Lifestyles', it's a ruthless
dissection of the modern condition, which, in their uniquely eccentric
and concise manner, is set to cement their reputation as London's
foremost art-pop biographers. With the ambiguous live favourite 'Whore'
as a flipside as well as a remix of 'Boring Lifestyles' from Brighton
dance terrorists South Central, 'Cinema' is the shot in the arm we've
all been waiting for. Recently signed to eclectic independent label
Because Music, home to Klaxons, Justice, Jarvis, Charlotte Gainsbourg,
Metronomy, and with an album close on the heels of 'Cinema', there’s no
doubt that Twisted Charm are set to be the music-lovers pop heroes of
2007. |
