Brian Muldoon is the unsung hero of Detroit?s garage rock scene. In 1991, whilst running his own furniture upholstery business he took on a 15-year-old apprentice named Jack White, introducing him to bands like the MC5, the Stooges and the Gories. Brian and Jack then formed a band called Two Part Resin before Jack went on to form the White Stripes, and Brian continued in upholstery, playing in part-time bands. Fast-forward to 2005, and Brian now has two young sons, Shane (5) and Hunter (8). Dad has taught them both drums and guitar, and now as the Muldoons, with the boys both playing guitar and singing, and dad on drums they make a four track EP produced by Jack White, with a sound as raw as any Stooges classic. Two years later comes this first excellent album. Produced by Brendon Benson (of Raconteurs fame) it has a slightly more restrained sound, but still remains a joyous slice of 00?s garage punk rock. Hunter and Shane have written all the songs bar two which are covers of the Stooges and Electric Eels. Highlights include ?Zombies? (self-explanatory), ?Chubby Bunny? (a song about stuffing your mouth full of marsh-mallows; don?t try this at home kids!), ?Tall? (about growing up too quick), ?Epic Battles? (staging bedroom fights with super hero action figures) and the ambitious ?Robot Car? where the two boys really give their guitars a good work out. Two tracks, ?Destruction Boy? and ?Red And Black? have been reworked from the original EP. Limited to just 1500 copies and only on vinyl this album is an absolute must-have and although the band have yet make any more records (no doubt school is to blame!) it does give one some hope that maybe the next generation is going to give rock and roll music the damn good kicking it once again so desperately needs.
