Brian Ellis - The Silver Creature

The Silver Creature by Brian Ellis

4...according to our on Fri 31 Aug, 2007.

Both of these CD's on Benbecular are guilty of wasting paper. Unless an insert has something useful on it - don't put it in there! Both have inserts you open out and thing - why oh why? This other one is by Brian Ellis and its called "The Silver Creature". This is kind of instrumental stuff that seems of emerged out of a ..dare I say it.............a jam but what do I know its a solo record so he's obviously jammed with himself. Speaking of jam I had none to put on my toast this morning and just thought on the off chance I'd check in the cupboard and there shining golden was a jar of unopened blackcurrant jam. Bliss. Always buy spare jam. This one is kind of jazz flecked and with enough solos to kill a man at ten paces. Another piece of advice - play fewer notes. Theres mutterings around here about 'Bitches Brew' by Miles Davis. The second track is better as they've already listened to my advice (how fast i this modern technology) more of a Tortoisey vibe - warm and shimmering. Stick with it you may be rewarded.

Brian Ellis is multi-talented individual from the west coast of the USA, whose jazz inspired mix of electronic funk is possibly one of the most unique blends of sound to be produced this decade. Followers of the label will no doubt recognise Brian's output as one half of the duo behind the highly acclaimed Minerals release "Free Festival". Brian's solo work is a phenomenal one man band with multi-tracked instrumentation that is so well put together it easily deceives, sounding more like a 6 piece.
