St. Vincent is Annie Clark who apparently plays guitar in the Polyphonic Spree and in Sufjan Steven's touring band. Her 7" 'Now Now' is a refreshing take on modern pop music. At times reminding us of Tori Amos but with far more interesting and dynamic sounds. With kids singing the chorus and the whole thing building into a huge crescendo Beggars Banquet should have a hit on their hands. I doubt it though. It's one of those songs you think they should be playing on mainstream Radio but sadly aren't.St. Vincent is the moniker of singer-multi-instrumentalist-composer, Annie Clark. Annie has made quite a name for herself over the last year or so... opening for Television, Jose Gonzalez, Sufjan Stevens, Midlake, and very recently, Arcade Fire. She plays guitar in the Polyphonic Spree and in Sufjan Steven's touring band.
St. Vincent's solo material is original unto itself - cinematic pop epics that feel at times like Paris in the '20s before all the fun ended. Or, conversely, an orchestra of pure modernity - a new American music, informed by jazz, gospel blues, Southern folk music, and classical composition.
Her debut album, 'Marry Me' will be released on Beggars Banquet in September.
