Elvis Perkins: "While You Were Sleeping" (XL) I remember dissing this guy's name last time I reviewed one of his singles, hey he's not blame for his name huh! This is one of those 7"'s that seems to go on for ever, not least because it plays at 33 but also because of the funeral pace of these strains of the folk/singer-songwriting, strum and wail like Jeremy Warmsley. The flip is Mr Perkins nod to a certain Robert Zimmerman. The overall feel is someone gaining confidence with his craft. Warm and endearing like a freshly baked loaf.

Following the release of ‘Ash Wednesday’, the astonishingly beautiful and critically acclaimed debut album, Elvis Perkins returns with a second single. Features an exclusive b-side.‘While You Were Sleeping’ is arguably the most heartfelt and poignant track on an album already bursting with an unprecedented warmth and honesty.  Featured on the B-side is a brand new track. ‘Counterclockwise’ is a country-tinged track, buoyant in it’s harmonica and acoustic guitar led simplicity. Demonstrating, on a two track alone, the prolific, unique and subtle magnificent talents of Elvis Perkins.
