What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

Band name of the week goes to David Cronenberg's Wife with their shambling debut I Couldn't Get off/ My Date With Jenna Bush. This is fun. Extremely Fall-esque sounding wonky lazy sounding indie which brought a smile to my face. That's something which doesn't happen too much anymore. Excellent stuff.

What the label says:

Tracklisting: (A) I Could’nt Get Off: (B) My Date With Jenna Bush. Debut single from prominent London based Antifolk and underground music scenesters – two DCW tracks already feature on the Billy Childish compilation “Somewhere Between Heaven & Woolworths” (Fortune Teller Records). Big beats and bright psychedelic/surf guitar cut through A side’s warped take on sexual frustration.  B side compliments with tale of celebrity stalking and seduction of G W Bush’s daughter set to a moody bass line. Time Out favourites DCW, who originate from Manchester & Bolton, have been regulars on the UK Antifolk roster since 2004, have toured the UK and New York and are prolific performers in the Hoxton/Commercial Road alternative music scene catching the attention of Billy Childish.   Frequently described as “back woods folk” DCW captures the dark & moody spirit of late 70’s Manchester and punk pscyo-delia.  Lyric subject matter lurks in the places today’s superficial mass media dare not tread.  Not for the easily offended!

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
