David E Sugar - Oi New York, This Is London

Oi New York, This Is London by David E Sugar

David E. Sugar: "Oi New York, This Is London" (Grecoroman) Which is the first outing for this newly birthed label curated by the Hot Chip boys. The opening salvo is what Mr Phil aptly described as gameboy pop, by this I think he means the 8-bit sounding electronics full of crumbling beats, nostalgic arcade fx. Containing three different mixes from Skream, Hot Chip Vs. Ragga Twins and a garage dub by Jesse Rose. Clearly aimed at the fashionable end of the clubbing fraternity the remixes aim to cater for all the zeitgeist genres. Sadly though the Skream mix doesn't anything like Skream, at least it says so on the sleeve. The Chip remix does it for me with it's scrambling oscillations and one half of the Ragga Twins spouting some vocodered vocals.

First release on HOT CHIP affiliated label GRECOROMAN, born out of their legendary spontaneous London warehouse parties. 8-Bit whizzkid DAVID E. SUGAR once played their party armed with nothing more than two Nintendo Gameboys and a guitar pedal and enjoyed it so much that he penned the party’s anthem for their New York soundclash…“OI NEW, YORK THIS IS LONDON! OI NEW YORK, GRECOROMAN SOUNDSYSTEM!” Since then DAVID E. SUGAR’S stock has risen considerably, having been approached by KYLIE MINOGUE to write tracks and having just come off tour with CALVIN HARRIS. This single comes with mixes from the cream of the crop … Berlin house hero JESSE ROSE (Get Physical / Dubsided / Made To Play), the frontrunner of the London Dubstep scene SKREAM (Tempa), HOT CHIP (of course) and the legendary RAGGA TWINS. Limitied to 1000 copies, and supported by a string of GRECOROMAN release parties during week of release.
