The For Carnation - Promised Works

Promised Works by The For Carnation

Touch & Go have complied together some of The For Carnation's 2 x EP (Fight Songs and Marshmallows) and put them together in one handy compilation for those too lazy to hunt out the proper thing. You should be ashamed of yourself. In case you don't know who they are.... they're a kind of supergroup featuring David Pajo (Slint, M, Aerial M, Papa M, Zwan....), Brian Mcmahon (Slint) and a couple of dudes from Tortoise... someone else as well but I'm too lazy to research. You think I've got time to do research already?? Well listening to this it sounds almost like the mellower end of Spiderland without the creaming mental health problems and the incredible drumming. Also the songs aren't as good. But hey you don't want to compare this to Spiderland. I'm sure Mcmahan has had that done for years and it's got to piss him off. The songs here do stand up on their own and if you're after some of the early influences on post rock etc then look no further. Promised Work is CD only for some stupid reason.

Two long out of print EPs from Brian ‘Slint’ McMahan’s The For Carnation.·Conceived in the early 90s, The For Carnation was the vanity project of Brian McMahan, known by a growing number of beleaguered twentysomethings as the voice of the legendary band Slint.   ·Over the course of three releases, the final being Touch and Go’s ‘The For Carnation’, McMahan managed to garner contributions from David Pajo (Slint), Doug McCombs & John Herndon (Tortoise), Tim Ruth (Evergreen), and brother Michael McMahan (Dead Child), among others. With their help, The For Carnation became reality.
