D'arcangelo's 'Eksel' CD is a rather different beast. These enigmatic Italians have been making some of the most moving Mediterranean-noir sounds over the years & after that hauntingly fab 12 incher a bit back we have an album comin' atcha with moody alien syths & sparkling beats escaping from a murky hospital waiting room. But there's joy here cos they're actually going outside for an early morning fag to watch the birds hop around on the dew soaked grass `Nobody is around but an eerie alien soul yearning to be caressed & loved. And by god, it gets it's oats here. Melancholy synths & skittering breaks tango & foxtrot round yr heart. There's joyful ambient interludes to swoon over. Itchy, funky mindrave pieces....Such a rich tapestry of warm synthetic sound, moods & emotions never more entwined within wires & gadgets. Pure, heartfelt melodic futurism. Totally lovely & proper essential.*`Exsel' is a compilation of tracks from the brothers Fabrizio and Marco
D' Arcangelo which reflects all the peculiarities of the D' Arcangelo
electronic project for old and new generations of braindancers.
*13 tracks including `Distant Sound of Nothing More', a tribute to composer
Lupi (1908-1971) and his theories on gravitational harmony, the highly melodic
`Stepping Out' and `Grey Sunday' featuring classic synths and sequencers,
`Nadine' and `H13' reminiscent of their previous album , and last but not
least, `Irko' is the exception, an experimental and frantic track characterized
by a rhythmic crescendo.

Wonderful. This is what braindance is about. Melodic, moving, and introspective electronic music. Best thing the label has released in well over a year. I've noticed this release doesn't seem to be getting much attention. It will no doubt be considered one of Rephlex's secret gems. A must.
