What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Ant feeling happy.

Not content with bog standard packaging Loaf have another release from Charlie Alex March which is a 7" on clear orange vinyl sticker sealed in a pvc sleeve with a fold out print from Yokoland. Tender heartfelt acoustic singer songwriter stuff that's theme of finding "true love in the end" is endearing. 'When The Clouds Clear' is a sweet twinkly number that's not unlike a more accessible Colleen. Old Charlie's not adverse to trying his hand at other instruments either. 'Piano Song' sees the man tinkling the ivories and playing some heart-wrenching strings. My personal favourite track on here 'Thinking Of You' is constructed from some excellent plinky plonkey percussion and reminds me of Ovuca's 'Afternoon Girl' track. During the coming weeks this will be coming out on CD and 7" in different packaging i.e a 7" strapped to 12" screen print in 12" sleeve as with previous Loaf releases. As with all releases on this label you can be assured of the quality.

What the label says:

Lo Alternative Frequencies, Lo Recordings’ new off-shoot
label is dedicated to developing new artists while
introducing new innovative ways of packaging music.
The Follow up to the critically acclaimed “When the Clouds
Clear” (LOAF03), sees Charlie further developing the notion
of stripped down pop songs.
“In the End” features four concise tunes, none longer than
two and a half minutes. The EP continues Charlie’s
collaborations with Joe Mount aka Metronomy who
produced the EP, High Llamas member Dominic Murcott
and the Elysian Quartet (Hot Chip, Simon Fisher-Turner,
Max De Wardener) who provide the lush strings.

Track List:
• In The End
• When The Clouds Clear
• Piano Song
• Thinking of You…

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.

'it's like I'm the farmhand and you're my animals.'
