Darkstar - Dead 2 Me/ Break

Darkstar’s first release is unexpected territory in the current dubstep milieu, and has already been selling strongly in the handful of stores with access to copies. As concerned with the crafting of an enduring song as much as they ever are with dropping the deepest rhythm, Darkstar operate on a level somewhat removed from the dubstep “scene”, and like Various Productions, find themselves aligned to the sound more by coincidence than design, although their tracks feature regularly on East London pirate Rinse FM and the fast-growing internet based SUB FM. Minor piano chords, clockwork percussion and a quirky ending make ‘Break’ a charming combination of humour and pathos, while ‘Dead To Me’ is a beautiful bass-propelled dubwise track featuring softly elegant vocals over a stepping drum pattern. Light and dark in all the right places, Darkstar are all set to become the next of a new generation producers to make the step up to a “proper” full length release, and your choice at this point is a simple one : stock their debut single now and bring a new smile to the faces of your treasured customers, or wait until the name Darkstar is all over the press and the record is all sold out. Both of these things will happen – all you have to do is pick a side of the line to be on.
