What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Mingus Rude feeling happy.

I'll start with Soundhacker:" A Series Of Routines EP" (Amp Bit Rifllgo) Rattling off some crunchy DSP'd (Digital Signal Process) beats spliced between what sound like recordings of haunted radio frequencies, crackle, hiss and bass (knob. Phil x) throb. If you like granular synthesized sounds ala While, Richard Devine and late nineties bedroom electronica look no further. Durational and developmental like a geek/nerd with an extended attention-span.

What the label says:

AMP002 - 'A Series of Routines' by Soundhacker is the second release from amp bit<if//go recordings, following Soundhacker's previous outings on Smallfish and Cactus Island. After a digital only release in March on amp bit<if//go, they return with this new 5 track EP.

'A Series of Routines' infuses intricate rhythmic structures with syncopated clicks and crackles. Spliced fragments and layers of crumpled digital noise, combined with sustained evolving textures, weaved around granular tones and gritty soundscapes.

About the humble CD single:

Another digital format and even though they can hold 80 minutes of information (like a CD album would) record companies only fill up a small portion of the disc. Sometimes only 1 or 2 tracks on there totalling 5 minutes or so. It's like going to a restaurant and getting a plate of food with 2 green beans on and wondering where the rest of your meal is. Sometimes they're lovingly packaged though and when the music is good then you're into a winner. Also you get videos on there sometimes which you can watch on your computer. That is excellent.
