“A vital purchase from the dark lords of electro” – Mixmag. The album embraces the bands new found creative freedom to explore the world outside the natural constraints of dance music. It systematically references every genre within Black Strobe’s spectrum of inspiration: from Norwegian black metal to contemporary dance music, this stunning debut soaks it up and spits it out in to a cohesive whole. This attitude is encapsulated by the hypnotic, deviant brute of opening track ‘Brenn Di Ega Kjerke’, while lead single ‘Shining Bright Star’, the first album track to introduce Arnaud Rebotini as vocalist, is a dark and thunderous disco-punk anthem full of electronic twists and Big Black basslines.·Check out the next single ‘I’m A Man’, a cover of the Bo Diddley classic, re-worked from a bluesy country rocker in to a heavy, Neo-Rave, Rockabilly masterpiece; or ‘Blood Shot Eyes’ with its crunching guitars, synthetic bleeps and ghetto techno beat.·‘You Should Be’ is an industrial-sounding late night mash-up of Air with Nine Inch Nails, while ‘Lady 13’ sees the band at their most introspective, with hymnal backing vocals gently washing over a distorted synth-heavy backdrop. ·But the album’s two closing tracks are Black Strobe at their most accomplished – ‘Last Club On Earth’ follows the formulas of dance music, with its driving disco beats but replaces synth parts with endless layers of MBV guitars while closing track ‘Crave For Speed’ is a sumptuous ballad with Arnaud playing piano over a chorus of distorted and grumbling guitars.
