People Press Play - People Press Play

People Press Play by People Press Play

'People Press Play' is the freshly realised moniker of Danish musicians Anders Remmer, Jesper Skaaning, Sara Savery and
Thomas Knak - a collaborative effort from veterans of the scene which shows that when you want something done properly you
need to leave it to the experts. You might remember Thomas Knak from his impeccable work under the Opiate moniker
(peaking with his immense productions for Bjork on her 'Vespertine' album) and his keen ear for melody and simplicity is
perfectly translated into his work as a 'band' of sorts' However don't for a second think that 'People Press Play' is an album of
restrained electronics - quite the opposite actually, this record is about as pop as they come, with gorgeous vocals coming from
the very lovely Sara Savery. The foursome manage somehow to distil the distorted bliss of My Bloody Valentine and the
lounge-core whimsy of Broadcast or Stereolab and come out with an album that is perfectly suited to the coming of summer.
As you may be aware, Remmer, Skaaning and Knak have already worked together on countless albums under the Future 3
moniker, but 'People Press Play' is more than just a Future 3 album with vocals, the musicians have taken all their collective
influences and made something daringly removed from their comfort zones. Squashed in-between their more poppish tracks
are elements that owe more to Brian Eno or even Steve Reich, yet at all times the album retains a listenablility that simply
can't be ignored. This is easy-listening music done slightly wrong - and that's definitely a good thing for all of us. Fans of
shoegazing pop or pensive, melancholic electronics couldn't possibly find an album more perfectly engineered for them - simply
sublime.
