What the label says:

Recorded by Steve Albini. They’ve been invited to support the likes of iForward Russia!, Brakes, the Broken Family Band and Young Knives, and now legendary producer and Shellac main man Steve Albini has given Stuffy/The Fuses his stamp of approval. He agreed to record their unique sound, which combines the rock majesty of the Pixies with XTC pop sensibilities and frenzied Fugazi guitar attacks, resulting in this album, Angels Are Ace. And with growing radio play across Radio 1, 2 and 6 Music from the likes of Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, and Mark ‘Lard’ Riley, Stuffy/The Fuses are becoming impossible to ignore. “A sound founded in pure pop, darkened and soiled after a rumble down a back alley… XTC pop at Fugazi volume.” Artrocker. “One gigantic power pop dirty bomb” Plan B. “The intensity of Fugazi or Shellac, filtered through the uniquely crumbling English mentalism of Cardiacs or XTC. Bloody Brilliant.” Drowned in Sound. As well as becoming one of the last ever bands to record a session for the late John Peel, they’ve also won the heart of Radio 2’s Mark Lamarr who has given them a session and even labelled them with their own genre – ‘Nu-indie’. Meanwhile bands including the Kaiser Chiefs, Magic Numbers, Brakes, and the Cardiacs have all been spotted at their gigs. Playing sweaty dancehalls up and down the country, the London four-piece have wowed crowds with their rampantly joyous exuberance, with extra gusto and bashful charisma from the Ritalin deprived front-man/drummer Stuffy (oft nicknamed ‘a sort of loveable drumming bear’). Thanks to Albini’s recording genius, Angels Are Ace captures the Stuffy/The Fuses live sound perfectly. The experience was a dream come true for Stuffy (AKA Stephen Gilchrist), who said: “Ever since I heard Pod by the Breeders in my teens I’ve wanted to make a record with him. What we wanted was that big live sounding drum sound and an ‘as live’ feel to the record. Ambition realised!” Angels Are Ace sees Stuffy/The Fuses follow the Enter Shikari route to DIY success, with the release on the band’s own label, Sour Puss. It comes after their debut, Join Me Or Die (Wrath). Stuffy/The Fuses are: Stuffy (vocals, drums), Jen Fuse (guitar, vocals) Jon Fuse (bass, vocals), Lucy Fuse (keyboards, vocals).
