I always seem to land French records to review. I went to France once and was astounded by how cheap wine was to buy. I don't understand the language though as I did German at school... The first album from Soy Un Caballo has a cool sleeve with some dude with a horses head. The male and female vocals capture that sense of French romance. This is somewhere between air and The High Llamas. I'd pay good money to see a Llama high...Will Oldham even makes an appearance singing in French!SOY UN CABALLO's first album, called 'Les heures de raison', will be out on Tuesday as they're playing the 'Nuits Botanique' Festival, as a support act for Ramona Cordova. Many talented musicians have taken part to the recording sessions of this marvellous album : Sean O'Hagan (The High Llamas), Charlie Francis (R.E.M. and Turin Brakes producer), Jesse D. Vernon (Morning Star), Kate Stables (This is the Kit), Delphine Bouhy (Adrian Bouldt) and, last but not least, Will Oldham himself who proudly sings in French on 'La Chambre'.
