What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

A name from yesteryear at the towers was Amp. We used to sell bucket loads of Amp records back in the mid to late 90's.... ah them were the days. You gotta love that Bristol scene. Dare I say it was slayer? Well RROOPP have lovingly compiled a 3 CD set of their old drifty floatyness in to one hunky dory info packed package called All Of Yesterdays tomorrow. It's nicely done and reasonably priced too (hey if the price is right...). So if you're into experimental feedback, droney intense bits of noise and that lovely space like floaty feeling then this is the sucker for you. At times it can be pretty dark and at other times it can have complete wonderful shades of light thrown into calm you right back down again. RROOPP did a Yellow 6 triple CD back which many of you purchased and if you liked that I can see you digging this one albeit it's more druggy and weird sounding. There's more info on the page for it than I could ever give you in this wee snippet-o-joy. Great great fun!!

What the label says:

‘All of Yesterday Tomorrow’ is a collection of singles, non-album and compilation tracks, and unreleased material by Amp, the experimental music and sound collective. In its fifteen year history, Amp – the “trans-European esoterrorists” – has become a towering anti-establishment in contemporary and experimental music. Comprised of the core duo of Richard Amp and singer Karine Charff, Amp has released music on a raft of renowned international record labels, including the seminal Kranky, Wurlitzer Jukebox, Darla Records and Space Age Recordings. The Amp collective operatives have been drawn from an equally enviable list of bands – from the legendary Third Eye Foundation, Flying Saucer Attack, Spiritualized and Julian Cope, to the distinguished Laika, Movietone, Gallon Drunk and Prolapse. ‘All of Yesterday Tomorrow’ compiles 38 tracks spanning over a decade of Amp’s oeuvre – including 12 unreleased songs, versions and outtakes, the 10 tracks from the out of print 1998 singles album, ‘Passé • Présent’, and 16 more non-album, vinyl-only and compilation tracks. The beautiful four-fold digipack carries a twenty page booklet, which includes the particulars and minutiae of each track, as well as exclusive Amp text and images. Spanning three discs, ‘All of Yesterday Tomorrow’ conjures up all of the convention-defying aspects of Amp’s music and sound. It is a tour de force of experimental genres – juxtaposing ambient, electronic, dream-pop, post-rock and space-rock songs. These songs form the space where music and sound meet, where raw noise, field recordings and accidental or natural occurrences are as valued as melodies, lyrics or riffs. It is this juxtaposition of the composed and the improvised, with music and sound free to breathe together, where the true magic happens – where meaning and mystery meet in the world of imagination. With this release on RROOPP, all of Amp’s yesterdays are finally free to inspire all of our tomorrows.

About the humble CD:

The CD is essentially a small portable face mirror which has an extra feature of being able to play music (through a thing known as a CD player). These CD's are a modern invention hence them being all shiny and digital. They can hold about 80 minutes of music and apparently are indestructible as you can smear jam on them and they still play (not as nourishing as toast mind you but when you're hungry.....). They sound crystal clear and are tiny convenient things. They lack the charm and warmth of their old analogue counterparts but their portability, convenience and ease of being duplicated make them a perfect thing of a thing for most folks. Jewel cases are the worst thing ever though and they really need to stop.

'why me, why me...'
