Again on Fitzrovian Phonographic we have Jacob Fletcher with Don't Go Down Burn. A hypnotic, emotive verse with hushed and nasal vocals. Sounds like he's singing from behind a curtain until the fabric is thrown back and we're into a grand chorus with trumpets and electrical guitars combining with powerful effect. B-sides an acoustic guitar and piano with the Earlies violinist on strings. Not as intense sounding as the a-side and it sounds just like Don't let me down by the Beatles. I was fearful it was too close to singer songwriter blandness but its pretty rousing chorus saves it form the edge of the abyss.350 ltd edition 7" vinyl & badge
Jacob Fletcher's debut release on Fitrovian Phonographic features the
first two songs to be taken from Jacob’s debut album All The Dead
Roads To Kingdom, a journeyman collection of songs written and
recorded on his extensive journeys throughout Eastern Europe, Russia
and Highway 61 USA.
From the sad and beautiful word of Burn to the chaotic rhythmic
pulse of Don’t Go Down, Jacob displays his interest in variations of
dynamics and instrumentation.
The single features a highly esteemed cast of Jacob’s friends and
collaborators, Semay Wu (The Earlies) provides strings, and Mira
Aroyo and Keith York (Ladytron) on synth and drums display their more
classical talents
