Now Daniel A.I.U Higgs with Atomic Yggdrasil Tarot on Thrill Jockey. A spiritual sounding lo- if recording on banjo and guitar in a similar vein to James Blackshaw. Or like when George Harrison went to India and came back with a bag full of instruments, a beard and a new karma. Unusual sounds using some pitch shifter. A real personal experimentation in trance sound. Never over complicated with only one sound to focus in at one time. haha Rolf Harris says AntThis release is a limited edition full colour 6x8” hardcover book plus CD.This is the second release in the series (the first being ‘Hokane’ by Aki Tsuyuko), and contains 48 pages of Daniel's paintings and writings. A CD of guitar and piano drones, Jew's harp, and banjo recorded by Daniel in his home is inserted in the front cover of the book. LP version of the album will be limited to 1,000 copies worldwide and sold separately from the book. A small number will have covers handpainted by Daniel, the rest will be silk-screened with his art. In addition to touring in April and May with Brightblack Morning Light, Daniel Higgs will be playing select US shows in support of the book.Daniel Arcus Incus Ululat Higgs is a musician and artist from Baltimore, Maryland on whose behalf superlatives are destined to fail. Often we hear that a true work of art is meant to speak for itself, and with the work of Daniel Higgs the maxim rings truer than ever. His art is of the cosmos, we on Earth merely lucky that it happens to be confined to our atmosphere, in our lifetime. Daniel Higgs is known primarily for his work as the sole lyricist and frontman of the band Lungfish, a four-piece dedicated to charting, in this listener's estimation, nothing short of the evolution of all species, known and unknown. In recent years, Higgs has released a number of solo outings that can only be described as the ultimate in isolation, worlds away from the hypnotic, communal rock of his band. On ‘Atomic Yggdrasil Tarot’, Higgs weaves meditative, casually ruptured drones using acoustic and electric guitar, upright pianos, banjo and Jaw's harp, recorded entirely at home on cassette recorder. He pairs the music with a series of paintings that call to mind religious iconography passed through the disfiguring surrealism of Miro.
