Jape - Floating

Floating by Jape

Heres a strange Beck type affair (or that first Gomez album) from Jape with Floating on Marine Parade. It's built around one droney chord with beats, hand claps and shakers giving it a tribal fee. He sounds like an angelic Ian Brown who wouldn't threaten to cut your hands off for not serving him a drink. Quite a groovy rhythm. It's all about the vibe. B-side is an electronic version with his voice put through one of those robot sounding vocoders (a la cher). Actually sounds quite cool.

In the UK Jape’s ‘Floating’ was originally featured on Marine Parade boss Adam Freeland’s ‘Back To Mine’ mix album. One of the most talked about tracks on his debut album ‘Floating’ is a genuine underground anthem in Eire – eg it was covered by Jack White’s new band ‘The Raconteurs’ on their recent tour!‘Floating’ is a future lo fi classic who’s sound sits midway between – Kate Nash ‘Carolines A Victim’ / Jamie T ‘Sheila’ / Arab Strap ‘The First Big Weekend’ / Beck ‘Loser’The 7” version, including warped electronic re-do by fellow Irishman Son Green, will appeal to fans of the following labels (and acts)Moshi Moshi (Hot Chip / Kate Nash)Transgressive (Jeremy Warmsley / The Young Knives)679 (King Creosote / Plan B)
