Reverend And The Makers - Heavyweight Champion of The World

Heavyweight Champion of The World by Reverend And The Makers

The Reverend And The Makers 7" is the most contrived piece of garbage I've heard in ages with the naffest lyrics I've heard in ages. It sounds like Hard Fi. I listen to Gina G... oo ah a little bit the other day. I couldn't believe how filthy (and crap) the lyrics were.Well the lyrics on this aren't filthy... just crap. Like a disco Hard Fi which I'm sure is gonna appeal to some out there. This makes me wonder why on earth I'm doing this. Heavyweight Champion Of The World is pure garbage.

It’s been a long time coming but finally the debut single from Sheffield legends Reverend And The Makers, fronted by enigmatic punk/poet/frontman Jon McClure & his 6 piece band is here.  Produced by Jagz Kooner and mixed by Cenzo Townsend, this first single is a massive wild eyed statement of intent. A record that instantly grabs you by the scruff of the neck and sounds like all your indie rock dreams mashed together in one band. ‘Heavyweight Champion Of The World’ has all the swagger of Manchester’s ‘finest’ with a lyricist that puts almost everybody else in the shade. As if that wasn’t enough, flick to the B side’s ‘18-30’, with its wry commentary on boozy package holidays and singalong anthemic qualities, and its patently obvious that this is the start of something special. For good measure the 7” also comes with exclusive poem ‘The Last Resort’ performed with reverend hero John Cooper Clarke.   The CD comes with exclusives in the shape of two mixes by Jagz Kooner. First a ‘Club Mix’ of ‘Heavyweight Champion Of The World’ and also an extended rework of ‘18-30’, plus the radio edit of ‘Heavyweight Champion Of The World’.

Not many tunes have me searching the internet, typing in song lyrics to find out who the artist is - but this one did. I work in a place that has its own radio station and everytime this tune come on i'd be tapping my feet and wanting to move like i was hitting the cardio at the gym!!! Its a real 'buzzer' of tune and im sure there will be some banging remixes to...Good tune, intelligent lyrics that all real people can relate to :)
