Repetition With Variation by Mon Mon

Mon Mon; "Repetition and variation" ep on their self titled imprint sound like a metal band attempting to escape their indie foundations. This is evident in some of the histrionics and grungy riffs. Their jangly roots come more to fore on the "Telebhisean" though towards the end of this track and the fourth track the heaviness rears its head again.

MonMon - Repetition with Variation EP,  a great mix of punkish indie that'll have you shaking. Coming out of nowhere these guys are well worth checking out live too.

Monmon were originally formed in the City of Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK as a post-rock instrumental trio by mr david nolan, mr philip leigh and the silent one.

MonMon are now a solid four-piece beat-combo quartet performing shrikey songs with an observational lyric and a slight country/folk colouring. Their music matches your clothes.

Repetition with variation is the work of a band who have got their sound very much together and no doubt through relentless gigging. Understated vocal anger mingles with glorious and melodic guitar riffs held together with tight, tight rhythm - the odd lurking-behind-the-riff power chord thrown in for good measure. On telebhisean we are treated to a rumble of bass before the understated sonic attack of two guitars and the singer letting rip. A cracking noise solo also tells us that this band can experiment freely and wrap it up in a tight melodic package. Strong, deliberate, beautiful at times and forceful at others, the whole recording demands attention.
