Grillo Parlante by The Buoys

The Buoys and their full length album Grillo Parlante. A full length album of smart electronica by three guys working in the industry. Nice to hear that its not stemmed their creativity as they've created a moody chin stroker of an album. Some lovely crackling sounds and field recordings. nice to hear sounds not obviously from some branded synths. Drifting. I like lots!

The Buoys are Chris Cousin, Stu Smith and Steve Gibbs. Taking inspiration from many years of producing soundtracks and audio-visual work for theatre, film and installation, The Buoys have created an album of cinematic soundscapes using custom-built electronics, field recordings, spitting static and wide screen guitar. The result is an isolatingly warm album of ambience and texture, an aural escapade into near-silent dark moods and deep pleasure. Do not be misled by minimal titles such as ‘Absolutely Nothing’, a track in which the guitar speaks like a dischordant wandering drifter on the open electro-static plains. Rich in production detail and full of warm textures, ‘Grillo Parlante’ is another fine release from a small label that deserves to be more widely heard. Chris Cousin produces solo releases as Sofalofa (Deep-Water, AI, Fabric) and collaboratively with Chin Chin, Big Toe, and Normal Position. He has composed soundtracks for film, TV, theatre and installations. Stu Smiths is a man of many talents, custom-built and analogue electronics being something he has mastered in-between working as a cameraman, film editor and graphic designer. He has recorded and toured with the psychedelic-dub band Heliotrope and done production work for Human League. Steve Gibbs is best known for his heavyweight dub project Vibronics. Recording and producing reggae for release through his own label Scoops and Zion Trains Universal Egg labels. He has composed soundtracks for theatre and installations for many years.
