On Tough Love records is the 'Playground' numbered 7" from William. We've entered into a conversation about 'Just William' and Marmalade Atkins which frankly is a lot more interesting than this record. I'm sorry to say that I'm not feeling of of their scratchy angular energy . I'm sure may of you would though. Maggie reckons this sounds like The Wombats.Single w/ free download. South London 3 piece William release their second single through Tough Love Records on Monday 7th May. The double A side 7” single includes “Playground” and “Porco Dio Vs.. ” and will once again be limited to only 500 copies. Consistent with past Tough Love releases, each record will come complete with a unique code which, when input at the label’s website, allows free access to both songs as MP3’s. Both songs will also be available to download from all the usual digital services. The release of “Playground” marks the next step in William’s artistic progression. Having received unanimous critical praise for their debut single in 2006, the band retreated to the practice room to perfect their unique signature sound and devise new material. The driving guitars and sense of urgency that inform “Playground” stand testament to this hard work. Drawing on such luminaries as Pavement and Dinosaur Jr, William have effectively channelled their maverick spirit to create a distinctive sound that is theirs alone. On the flipside, the eccentrically titled “Porco Dio Vs…” is an exemplary exercise in tension and release. The dynamic interplay between guitar and bass underscores a keening and addictive vocal performance; all enigmatic whispers and cryptic allusions. Markedly different from the immediate riff-driven A side, “Porco Dio Vs Schwinenhund" showcases the range and depth of a young band unafraid to step away from current trends and forge their own clear cut identity.
