This record left Johnny electronic feeling ecstatic.
Heard a track on resonance fm and thought I`d check it all out and its amazing. Fennesz meets Isan meets Sogar with a dash of Tim Hecker. It actually doesn`t sound like anything else actually so I`m very impressed. Looking forward to Simons live shows! Review date: 03 May 2007
What we say
This record left our Phil feeling ecstatic.
I’m well into this Drifing Falling label. The 2 x CD we got the other week were ace (Cheer and My Kappa Roots). Here’s a new CD by ex Charlottes, Ex Slowdive guy Televise. He’s had releases out on Club AC30 and this is his new 6 track EP. This is totally lush and an instant comparison is the Epic 45 Drakelow EP in it’s grandeur. The opener is a blinding tune making me think of of Fennesz crossed with Seefeel or something. In fact that goes for a lot of the EP to be honest… Fennesz style crackles and clever underneath things with Seefeel style warmth and melodies. Track 4 (Perfect Sound) is the total winner for me with it’s double super twinkliness stylings. It’s great. To top it all off there’s a Mole Harness mix at the end which is just superb. A fantastic EP.
What the label says:
Simon Scott was born in Cambridge and spent his early teens drumming for The Charlottes who released the "Love Happy" album on Bristol's Subway Records and a second album "Things fall apart" on Cherry Red. After tours with bands such as Ride, House of Love and Swervedriver he joined Slowdive who signed to Creation records in 1990. He spent three successful years with Slowdive which included drumming on the debut "Just for a Day" album and working with Brian Eno on Slowdive's second album "Souvlaki". In the late nineties Simon formed alternative/noise/electronica outt Inner Sleeve in which he was the primary songwriter and played guitar and sang lead vocals. They released two singles and one album on Fierce Panda. He later drummed for Lowgold who signed to Nude records, home of Suede and Ultrasound, in 1999. Simon formed Televise in 2003 after a rare sighting of his hometown legend and ex-Pink Floyd hero Syd Barrett inspired him to continue songwriting and "make the music I want to make". After releasing the Outside Out single on Club AC30 in May, 2005 was spent recording songs for a debut full-length with Pat Collier. 2006 saw the band playing shows with Isan, Yellow 6, Cougar and Greg Davis. 2007 see's Televise release "Strings and Wires" on London label Drifting Falling. Taking on a much more ambient minimal electronic feel, this new material is very much the sound of a man following his heart...making the music he wants to make.
