Apparently Last Step is the work of Aaron Funk better known as Venetian Snares. I'm not sure about that myself as this is all created on analogue gear and doesn't bear much resemblance to his production sound which uses mainly trackers. Then maybe thats why he's using a n alter-ego. I don't really care who it is to be honest. The first couple of tracks on this self titled long player sound like they've been lifted straight from AFX's Analord EP's with the Roland sounds and acid squelches. It's an enjoyable listen. Not mind blowing like but it has its moments. He lists his influences as Giorgio Moroder, Drexciya, Phuture, Depeche Mode, Luke Vibert, Mozart, Jean Michel Jarre, Roland, The Human League, DMX Krew, Throbbing Gristle, Vav Jungle, Jeff Mills. Its like all of them having a big analogue party complete with jelly and ice cream. After his debut EP ‘You’re A Nice Girl’ (included here in it’s entirety
on the CD format), and his appearance on the ’Sacred Symbols Of Mu’
compilation, Canada’s Last Step unleases his debut album called simply
’Last Step’.
These tracks are all created using original analogue
equipment like the Roland 303, 606, 707 and Jupiter etc. I do not no
much about last step as he only communicates with me anonymously and
via vocoder. All his royalties (if he ever makes a profit) are destined
for the St. Bernadetta’s Synth Hospital.
He’s listed his
influences as The Carpenters, Giorgio Moroder, Drexciya, Phuture,
Depeche Mode, Luke Vibert, Mozart, Jean Michel Jarre, Roland, The Human
League, DMX Krew, Throbbing Gristle, Vav Jungle, Jeff Mills, Simon and
Simon, 808 State & Glass Tiger.
