Already. Here's a 7" and CD by Captain Phoenix who is apparently a saucy bluesman who can relieve girls of their knickers with one gravelly yell . Well so say the NME. I want some of what he's had. Quite a talent. Musically it's like commercial indie rock with hints of the Chilli Peppers and that kind of thing. It doesn't work on boys though as my pants are still firmly wedged onto my arse.Captain Phoenix is made up of 4 fresh-faced, barely-in- their-twenties boys, they’ve already mastered the art of encapsulating the modern condition into hyper-habit-forming gleaming pop nuggets. It’s a feat largely down to the lyrical deftness of bassist, songwriter and floppy-haired frontman Ben Burrows. The band grew up in Winchester, a place, they say is “full of middle class people and chavs”,
The bright lights (and its nefarious inhabitants) of the big city beckoned, giving the boys not only the opportunity to go out really party but plenty of ammunition for forthcoming single ‘Living On The Guestlist’ - a scattershot Rifles-esque dancefloor-baiter – it’s a succinct reflection on the hostile pretentiousness of London nightlife - something anyone who’s been the wrong side of the velvet rope can empathise with.
With legendary producer Steve Cooper, (of Supergrass’ ‘Pumping On The Stereo’ fame), there to keep things together, and the boys are rightly very excited about the results. Ben: “It’s awesome, it sounds really fresh and way above our expectations.”
Armed with infectious new single ‘Living On The Guestlist’ and a whole heap of equally brilliant tunes Captain Phoenix are hitting the UK with bells on. Certainly a band to keep an eye on you can catch them at the dates listed below:
