Burjuba - Burjuba

Burjuba by Burjuba

4...according to our on Thu 26 Apr, 2007.

The sleeve for the new self titled CD from Burbuja looks so like Bjork's 'Vespertine' that If I was the Icelandic pixie I'd be sueing Station 55 label head honcho Cristian Vogel and spending all the money on snacky treats. There seems to be a lot of experimental female stuff about at the moment. This has been produced by Vogel and is a real change of direction for him. I used to buy all his records on his old label Mosquito and Sativae etc. This is the next step forward from Super Collider. Some cool sounds on here and the vocals are okay but don't fully immerse me in the album. This will appeal to fans Bjork I reckon. Reading this review back to myself I realise it's utterly informative. You can't win 'em all. Hmmmmmmm... I fully endorse Kettle Chips ...

Station 55 Records is an independent record label, affiliated to Cristian Vogel's Barcelona based recording studio.  Station 55 Records aims to provide an essential platform for productions and music concepts, for artists and bands who are seeking to explore their own approaches to what they consider alternative and organic in the new music. The imprint is the practical progression of Rise Robots Rise records, home to Super_Collider and others, which ceased to release in 2004. The key approach for Station 55, is that of being primarily a studio with an associated label and publisher. This structure should make it more viable to host unique collaborations and experimental sessions.

After performing with groups such as Plexus & Las Perras del Infierno, Merche Blasco formed Burbuja as a vehicle for her own musical exploration. Since it’s conception 2 years ago she has participated & collaborated with various artists, establishing a strong relationship between different mediums of artistic expression & her own musical direction. She has composed music to accompany the sculptures of Lucy Orta at the Venice biennale & soundtracks for videos & installations by the artists of FABRICA.
