Future Artists by Dead C

What better way to start the working day than with the spanking new album from New Zealand's favourite sons The Dead C. 'Future Artists' has the band in fine form with a heavy droney improvised sludge. I'm particularly feeling the really miserable sounding drum pounding and washes of feedback on epic opener 'The AMM of Punk Rock'. 'The Magicians' is a dischordant yet tuneful lo-fi guitar work out with slightly tortured vocal. 'Macoute' meanwhile has that brooding, Wolf Eyes-esque nightmarish / horror feel. The last two tracks clock in at a mammoth 17:00 mins and 20:15 mins!" 20 years on and these guys have still got that magic and continue to push improvised rock boundaries. Recommended on Ba Da Bing.

On their first new album since 2003's The Damned and last year's two-cd greatest hits behemoth, Vain, Erudite & Stupid, New Zealand's The Dead C return with another uncompromising realisation of the finest rock improvisation you'll ever hear.  It's been twenty years, and The Dead C show no sign of losing their ability to express the surreal and undefined.  Long may they prosper.
