Burning Star Core - WSBC/SSS

WSBC/SSS by Burning Star Core

For some reason it took me a while to check out C. Spencer Yeh's Burning Star Core Project. I was well spooked out after hearing his CD on no fun and was excited when the second 10" on No-Fi arrived. This is doomy, totally trashed out comatose nightmare shit but lurking underneath is a warmth and a sense of beauty. A big tripped out drugged up wall of disturbing sound.

- the second in the series of super-limited 10”s from cincinnati’s basement noise terrorist c. spencer yeh

- features special exclusive artwork from wolf eyes’ john olson!

info:

Making a name for yourself as one of the most important characters in the noise scene can’t be easy, yet there’s something about C. Spencer Yeh that makes you think he takes it in his stride. With more collaborations and live appearances that can really be healthy, the man now returns to Newcastle’s No-Fi label for the second in a six-part series of 10” releases and we see him again on blistering form. Where the series’ first offering ‘Amelia’ showed Yeh’s sensitive side, ‘WSBC/SSS’ goes straight for the jugular with pure distorted punk noise, all rampant high end and a growling analogue core. However what sets Yeh away from so many of his contemporaries is that beneath all the hellish distortion and crushing doom is a sense of harmony and pastoral perfection. It’s not often in noise music that you get this kind of intense-yet-measured collision, but Yeh manages to pull it off magnificently resulting in a 10” which crosses genre boundaries in the most punk-rock fashion imaginable. This is the record to play to your friends who think that avant garde music is just for bearded scholars and pseudo intellectuals and prove to them that the punk spirit is alive and well.
