This record left Analord Skywalker feeling sad.
This is 99.999% certainly Aphex Twin - unfortunately it is also 99.999% a selection of leftover tracks from his Analord series. It's dull, it's been done before and it is not worth listening to - even for hardcore Aphex fans. Review date: 12 May 2007
This record left deverbandrelay feeling happy.
couldnt disagree more with the other reviewer. I dont rate the analord stuff so much whereas i reckon the tuss releases are pretty hot... Review date: 07 November 2007
What we say
This record left our Ant feeling ecstatic.
The uber geeks have been jamming the web forums with speculation that the new The Tuss Confederation Trough EP is a Richard D James
production. I must admit when I first heard it I immediately thought it
sounded like the Analord tracks. It's credited to Brian Tregaskin. It's
pretty good actually some cool analogue sounds and acid squelches. If
it's not Aphex then it's someone who's managed to
make a carbon copy of his sounds. The chords, emotional strings, tricky
beats and evolving rhythms. The second track on the CD is a wicked post
acid house groover. Very classic Rephlex sounding. 4
tracks in total, 3 on each format so you'll need to buy both to get all
the tracks. Frankly I couldn't give two fucks who the producer is. If
you like the music buy it, if you don't then choose not to buy it. The
sad thing is that people will buy it just incase it's Aphex.
What the label says:
Confederation Trough’ EP is the debut single of new Rephlex signing The Tuss aka Brian Tregaskin, a musician discovered via intensive MySpace exploration by the A&R dept. Apparently touted by labels such as XL and Ninja, The Tuss’s official line seems inspired by the time FFRR signed Chicago house legend Lil Louis’ smash hit ‘French Kiss’, even tho they had no information about him at all at the time! The EP features 4 tracks across 2 formats (just 3 tracks on each tho), featuring a unique blend of head music and dance vibes, everything from acid / house / techno / industrial to pastoral and folk influences.
