Beatnik Filmstars return with their eighth full length album, and this one is really something else. More ‘Odd-Pop’ sure! The group recorded a new album (‘If We Did That Then…’) at the end of last year, but in typical Beatnik fashion, decided to record another more Lo-Fi one straight away, in the space of two weeks, despite not having any songs. So everything you hear on this album was written and recorded in a two week period in February. (the other new Mid-Fi album will be released later…) As usual everything was self recorded in their homes, on a variety of recording equipment, from plain old cassette to 8 Track. No computers were allowed anywhere near the music… Some journalists will slate the record for it’s under-produced sound, but Beatnik Filmstars hate the over polished sheen on modern pop music. If this group, nicknamed the ‘British GBV’ really are the ‘British GBV’ then this album must surely be their ‘Bee Thousand’. Fans of eccentric British pop music will love this album. Imagine a Lo-Fi Kinks, with a hint of The Fall at their most melodic, with Smiths style humour, and Syd Barrett conducting. Fans of the group’s earlier albums ‘Phase 3’ and ‘In Hospitalable’ will love this record. New fans will be delighted with this collection of songs. This album should be the soundtrack to your summer.
Only you can make it so…The first 500 copies all come with a one of a kind hand made booklet, wrapped in a printed Tracing Paper sleeve, packaged in a jewel case with a yellow tray.
