"We Are Animals" is the debut album by BBC Radio 3 favourites Colditz. Colditz' modus operandi involves the utilisation of noises made by instruments (piano, percussion, brass, harmonium and cello) as well as noises made by other things (pencils, pins, knuckles, floorboards...) The tracks are minimalist, elegant and intriguing. The sounds are sometimes quite fractal, but there is a strong compositional element holding the whole thing together. Track 5 ("Deranged Life") is a cover of "Range Life" by Pavement. It came about after Colditz and Future Pilot AKA were asked to do a cover for a Pavement compilation on Italian label HomeSleep. It bares a vague resemblance to the original, but contains lyrics sung in Punjabi by the Pilot - Sushil K Dade. This collaboration resulted in Colditz being asked by Future Pilot AKA to produce "Salute Your Soul", an album released on Domino/Geographic.
