Boy In Static - Violet

Violet by Boy In Static

A work of hushed dream-pop with lush vocals and mature songwriting, the follow-up to 2005’s Newborn.  MySpace.com featured artist in late 2006. Toured with 13 & God in 2006; extensive touring set up for 2007. Boy In Static is Boston’s Alexander Chen, a self-taught musician, singer/songwriter and graphic artist. Beginning his recording career with a three-song demo and a game of email tag with the Notwist’s Alien Transistor label, Boy In Static’s first album, Newborn, was released in 2005 after the two sides finally met at a Boston area concert. An amply proficient musician, Chen plays numerous instruments and arranges the live recordings he produces. With a sound that ranges from the wall-of-sound aesthetic of Creation’s heyday to the electronic pop of Morr Music, Boy In Static finds a comfortable balance between processed sounds and timeless songwriting. While Newborn was a collection of songs meant to conjure images of a half-waking dream, Violet invokes a feeling of the morning after. The album is developed using a broad palette, with more than fifteen instruments being played directly by the artist. Boy In Static is in perfect stride with Chen’s bedroom-electro-ballad aesthetic, building on his fuzzy brand of hushed dream-pop with a timely maturity.
