What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Phil feeling happy.

Watch out kids. Venetian Snares is back with a new mini album job on Sublight. Pink & Green is CD only (though there is a version of it coming on vinyl soon from thar Planet Mu). The cover is ace...like some twisted version of My Little Pony Land on acid. It's well colourful. Anyhoo the Snares does his thing and you know what that sounds like by now. You either love him or hate 'em... or you could be like me as I was a fan but now it chuffs me off a bit. Still I haven't heard him in so long I'm strangely enjoying this disjointed fucking mess of an IDM record. It's either enormously clever or ridiculously annoying. I can't decide. You decide.... cute cover though...

What the label says:

Venetian Snares, aka Gonk the 8-legged Viking, is back with yet another record that sounds nothing like Boards of Canada!
From the catchy title track opener ‘Pink & Green’ which blends demented punk vocals with hyper-complex grooves and gut gurgling bass blasts you can just tell this is something fresh and funky from producer Aaron "funk" Funk.
Not to worry though, the sub-rattling low-end blasts and jackhammering hardcore anthems are still here and in full effect on tracks like ‘Sporto Fucking Sellout Cocksuckerface’ and ‘Husikam Rave Dojo’ that revisit the days of pilled
out candy raving.
Limited  pressing, features amazing artwork by Arnold Steiner aka AS1 Projects.
Tracklist:
A1. Pink & Green  A2. Nutimik Husikam Rave Dojo  B1. Pink & Green VIP  B2. Sporto Fucking Sellout Cocksuckerface

About the humble 12":

The 12" is the big brother of records as it's an fatter version of the 7", with a vast scope for an array of remixes and B sides. They are slightly less portable their smaller inched brethren but they're by no means inferior. Often the grooves are spaced wider apart and thus sound much much better. You can fit ample tracks on and if worse comes to worse they make fine plates (should your crockery go awol). Yes, there's a hole but holes are easy to sort out. Once again they're available on many different colours and guises. The best thing about a 12" is the potential vastness of the artwork. Also playable on many speeds!!

'tried and tested and consequently failed...'
