This record left our Phil feeling happy.

Bjork has a new album with a veritable 'whos who' of cool namechecky type people... Volta features Antony, Chris Corsano. some dude from Lightning Bolt (he is a dude as well), Timbaland and Mark bell (LFO) is back twiddling knobs again. You can say what you like about Bjork but she does tend to push things forward always hunting out new sounds and new music. She's bringing some pretty far out there crazy music to the masses and that has to be commended. I'm a massive fan of Bjork and this sounds pretty cool though the tracks with Antony annoy the hell out of me. His voice is that of a strangled lamb. Some of the beat are quite cool though. I've only heard about half of it though for time reasons and One Little Indian didn't send us an advance copy to check out so I haven't quite got to grips with it yet. Sounds reasonably interesting though and she does look like a huge tomato on the cover. Volta is available as limited CD/DVD set (vinyl to follow!)

Musical innovator and icon Björk releases her next studio album ‘Volta’ on May 7th 2007 on One Little Indian Records. ‘Volta’ is Björk's sixth studio album and follows the release of ‘Medúlla’ in 2004.Featuring new and original tracks, ‘Volta’ is written and produced by Björk, with three tracks co-produced with Timbaland and Mark Bell.In the role of producer Björk has brought in various other musicians to work on her songs and ‘Volta’ features some of her most interesting collaborations so far with Antony (Antony And The Johnsons) singing on two tracks, and Timbaland (Jay-Z, Missy Elliot etc) working with Björk on beats that she created for three further songs. Other artists that feature on ‘Volta’ include electronic pioneer Mark Bell of LFO and two unique drummers – Chris Corsano (the improvisational drummer who has worked with Sonic Youth amongst others) and Brian Chippendale from Lightning Bolt. Björk also brought in two acclaimed African artists for ‘Volta’ - Toumani Diabate, the Malian kora player and Konono No1 the experimental band from The Congo who won a BBC World Music Award in 2006.  She has also put together her own 10 piece female brass section of Icelandic musicians who play on three further tracks. Meanwhile Chinese pipa expert Min Xiao-Fen plays on one song.
