Dog Day - Night Group

Night Group by Dog Day

4...according to our on Thu 03 May, 2007.

Dog Day: "Night Group"is a12 track debut offering from Halifax (Canada) on Tomlab is the sort of fare that used to be described as power pop. A peculiar name for a genre, but one that neatly sums up the almost punk like attitude that comes across in these simple, raw and unsophisticated pop songs (for want of a better description). Good strong indie music that knows its place in this world. I'm supposed to make a handy comparison here so you will part with your filthy lucre, oh go on then...maybe a younger Go Betweens on speed. To be fair I don't like making comparisons but I understand its role on this site, so yeah...elements of Pavement, early Notwist, early MBV (especially the male female vocal interplay)or even Sonic Youth come across in spades.

*From the current musical hotbed of Canada , `Night Group' is the debut
album from Halifax based Dog Day.
*In the tradition of great pop bands (particularly recent Sonic Youth records),
Dog Day keeps it simple on Night Group. Playing tight and aggressive, taunting
us at times with their understated abilities on tracks like Vow, which plays
with timing, starts, stops, and meanders. This album consistently make the
point that minimalism can be a compositional choice, not a foregone conclusion.
*Limited vinyl pressing.
*Tracklist: 01 Lydia 02 End Of The World 03 Oh Dead Life 04 Career Suicide
05 Know Who You Are 06 Vow 07 Gayhorse 08 Night Group 09 Sleeping, Waiting 10
Defeat 11 Great Pains 12 Bright Light
