What we say

Rating: happy This record left our Maggie feeling happy.

Now lead singer from Quicksand and Rivals Schools and the creator of many crunchy loud songs has unplugged and gone all acoustic. He's calling himself WALTER SCHREIFELS now cos his mum called him that. One man on his acoustic one. Not really much you can do really and its sounds like that, though his shout out to Love lead singer Arthur Lee is pretty touching. 7"

What the label says:

When Walter Schreifels was only 16, he founded Gorilla Biscuits. The band soon released the seminal hardcore album ‘Start Today’. After Gorilla Biscuits, Walter founded Quicksand. Quicksand recorded two records - ‘Slip and Manic’ and ‘Compression’ – tunes that heavily influenced many of today’s modern rock icons. They wrote songs that were hard but deftly sophisticated. The band became the first headliners on the Warped Tour, and toured with Rage Against the Machine, White Zombie and many others. Quicksand eventually disbanded and Walter formed Rival Schools. The band's first album ‘United by Fate’ was released by Island Records in 2001, achieving gold status in the UK.
Like Duckworth, many of Walter’s fans were surprised and pleased to hear that he was back, having swapped the crushing riffs and hard driven vocals for a more subtle, acoustic style of song writing. It was this discovery that lead Duckworth to quickly track down Schreifels and hound him into releasing a single and fly over from his current home in Berlin, to support Get Cape… on their January headline tour Songs.
‘Distance’ is a rare acoustic version of a pre-Quicksand song, dusted down and updated for present day - a must for any Schreifels complete-ist. ‘Arthur Lee's Lullaby’, a song dedicated to the late Arthur Lee of Love, talks of music as a life companion - an idea shared by many fans of Love and Schreifels alike. Like any good artist should, Walter Schreifels has grown, re-invented and become all the more vital as the years go on, an artist that has spanned generations, has influenced many and will enrich your life
once again.
