Lichens - Omns

Continuing with the weird and wonderful, the ever cool Kranky stable have a CD and DVD set out by LICHENS,better known to his family and friends as Rob Lowe. I'd love to think that it was 80's heart throb and star of crud ice hockey flick 'Young Blood' that created this music. This is a dreamy, haunting mix of looped vocals, drones and both electric and acoustic guitars. In places I'm reminded of a less medieval sounding Alexander Tucker. It really sounds like it was created in another time. Apparently the DVD contains a live performance. If we had time to be watching DVD's though I suspect Phil and I would like to be watching a good old bluey. Muff mania for example......

Rob Lowe aka Lichens is involved in collaborations with Cloudland Canyons and White Light. He is also working on a collaboration with Alan Licht, and is currently a touring member of Rhys Chatham’s guitar trio.
Lichens is Lowe’s personal vehicle, created for performance and recording solo and with collaborators. Lichens live is a transfixing experience, looping wordless vocals into curtains of ghostly drone. Lowe adds acoustic and electric
guitars, percussion and other effects to create alternately thick and delicate works.
His first full-length release ‘The Psychic Nature of Being’ (put out on vinyl by the estimable folk/psych/heavy imprint Holy Mountain) was accompanied by a Chocolate Industries limited edition 7 Inch single release, packaged inside a
book of art Lowe curated with contributions by Jon Beasley, Justin Schaeffer, Devendra Banhart and others.
The accompanying DVD contains a single live 28 minute performance from Chicago’s Empty Bottle that was recorded in 2006.
