What we say

Rating: unmoved This record left our Ant feeling unmoved.

The first thing that strikes me about the sleeve of Boom Bip's 'Sacchrilege' 12" is that the artwork looks like a Bhat Optics design but done in icing. It looks like a big Skam cake. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. 'Snook Adis' has nods to Kraftwerk with it's electro sound. This is an electrofunk (I'm reminded of Jimmy Edgar) 5 track ep with a slight disco / Moroder influence in 'Coogi Sweater'. And even a techno track. A change of direction for both the artist and label.Pussy pink vinyl on Lex. The press for this claimed it sounded like Model 500. Now that truly is Sacchrilege.

What the label says:

25 minutes of new music from Boom Bip. Five tracks of synthetic upbeat electronics, referencing Goblin, Model 500, Giorgio Moroder and ‘Artificial Intelligence’-era Warp output.   ·The EP is housed in an EHQuestionmark designed full colour / UV spot gloss sleeve, available on limited edition pink vinyl.  Boom Bip is a key Lex artist with a strong fanbase in the UK and worldwide. His last UK-only single sold all 1000 limited copies in the first week. It was NME Track Of The Week and received major support from Radio 1 and XFM.   ·Since then Boom Bip has toured with Interpol and remixed Mogwai, Snow Patrol, Hot Hot Heat, Her Space Holiday and many other bands. ·Boom Bip is in the music media frequently at the moment. He’s half of the hot new group Neon Neon with Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys. ·Boom Bip (with full band) tour the UK the week after release.

About the humble 12":

The 12" is the big brother of records as it's an fatter version of the 7", with a vast scope for an array of remixes and B sides. They are slightly less portable their smaller inched brethren but they're by no means inferior. Often the grooves are spaced wider apart and thus sound much much better. You can fit ample tracks on and if worse comes to worse they make fine plates (should your crockery go awol). Yes, there's a hole but holes are easy to sort out. Once again they're available on many different colours and guises. The best thing about a 12" is the potential vastness of the artwork. Also playable on many speeds!!
