What we say

Rating: ecstatic This record left our Phil feeling ecstatic.

A week late is the new THE GOOD THE BAD THE QUEEN single (as mentioned last week cos of the idiots at EMI). Green Fields is out as 2 x 7" and CD single and I have to say I reckon these lot are a bit useful. It's not obvious... it's not fashionable... it's not over complicated... it's just good. Here we have a summery piece of Beatles-esque acoustic pop which is just excellent indeed. On 2nd listen it's many hooks are already caught under my skin to a dangerous level. Highly recommended!

What the label says:

Green Fields is the third single from the critically acclaimed album The Good, The Bad and The Queen and will be released by Parlophone/Honest Jons on 2nd April 2007.

Damon Albarn has introduced Green Fields as "a song that came back to me". Written one late night in 2003, Damon gifted the demo to Marianne Faithfull, only to be reminded of it when she recorded it in 2005.

Green Fields will be released on gatefold 7", 7" coloured vinyl, and Enhanced CD. All formats feature new B sides including Damon's original demo version for Green Fields.... "written late at night, somewhere down the Goldhawk Road".

The band will be performing Jonathan Ross on the 23rd March. and will also be playing the last weekend of gigs at the Hammersmith Palais weekend before release of this single.

The Good, The Bad and The Queen debuted at #2 in the UK and on the pan- Europe chart the album came in at #3. Featuring Damon Albarn, Paul Simonon, Tony Allen and Simon Tong, The Good, The Bad and The Queen is a Gold album.

About the humble 7":

The humble 7" is the smallest of the vinyl formats (not including the ridiculous 5") and it's the perfect medium for transporting a couple of new songs by up and coming bands straight into your ears. They're fun and they take up less space in your house than something bigger would. They come in a plethora of exciting colours and fantastical packages, and you can fit about 14 minutes onto one 7". You may have to get up every few minutes to put a new record on but think of the exercise. Don't forget every record you buy plays at least 2 speeds (depending on your stereo) and you need to play all records on all speeds to get the maximum joy from your purchase.
